First, my dad. Who paved the way and lovingly prepared the world for his endearing weird little family. His long early-morning commute to work for years only to enjoy the hushed solitude in praying for his children, everyday. The many years I would fly home to see he and mom only to notice his tiny frame from afar at the end of the airport’s long corridor waiting patiently for me. You were proud, I knew it and felt your love.
My wonderful father-in-law, Gerald. You’ve been gone a few years now but your legacy of family has ensued. Thankful for showing us what it’s like to persevere and remain faithful. You were a true testament to all those who knew you. You are dearly missed Mike-y.
To my very strange 3 brothers. The unrelenting not-so-little noise makers of the family who continue to act out dispondently to the dialogue of the same slapstick movie EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR. You clamor on like it’s 1970 the first time you saw it. Yes, the blowup in the cockpit WAS a riot. But, newsflash. We heard it the first time, we heard it the 20th time. It’s not funny anymore! BUT once you get going, it’s like a runaway train. On steroids. YET. They each are their own children’s hero. You are truly a gift in the sight of their eyes. The Lord continues to be your mainstay and guidance for your family. Their rock. Each of them. So proud to call you brother.
To Ben, our son and first-year dad. Your quiet spirit is what makes you the strong one. We watch quietly from the sidelines and love the way you love and lead your family – the greatest gift. We love you more than words can say. Dad and I are so proud of you, Ben.
Last and certainly not least, Don. You’ve been by my side 35 years. The father of our 3 grown children and a proud papa in the last year, I’ve seen you grow more to serve you family in a monstrous way. How is it that you chose us? Thankful you have a heart ready to love and give like no other. That gift is our reward. I celebrate you today.
Happy Father’s Day to all the Father’s who graciously serve and lead with integrity. We celebrate you.
